Gold Coast Backflow Valves
A Backflow Valve is a mechanism used in the plumbing line to prevent clean water from mixing with polluted water.
The Australian standard for water supply (AS 3500.1:2003) states, “All water supply systems shall be designed, installed and maintained so as to prevent contaminants from being introduced into the water supply system.”
If contaminated water is consumed - death can be the result. As such, strong regulations are in place that requires commercial and industrial premises rated as medium and high-risk to have adequate backflow prevention valves in place. They must be installed by professionally licensed and insured plumbers and inspected every 12 months to ensure their quality and function.
If your establishment on the Gold Coast has backflow valves, we can assist with your plumbing needs.
Failure to keep service log books of current maintenance comes with severe consequences for the establishment. It is the plumber’s responsibility to provide their clients with a Certificate of Compliance prior to use and after each periodic inspection.
If you are unsure as to whether you have, or need a Backflow Valve at your Northern NSW, Gold Coast or Brisbane location, Jeff MacDonald Plumbing can conduct a complete site evaluation and assessment of your needs. We can recommend the appropriate backflow prevention device, and look after the installation, testing, servicing and maintenance reporting of each backflow device.
There are several factors that can create a backflow of liquid in the piping system; but primarily it is a loss of pressure in the supply line. A burst water main, a pipe damaged by nearby construction or digging, if the water in a pipe freezes, or there is unusually high demand for water supply; are all common causes.
There are thousands of reported cases of backflow contamination in Australia each year, and the Gold Coast is no exception.
Regulatory bodies audit many locations as the potential effects of water contamination are very serious.
If it is your responsibility to deliver clean water at your location, ensure you are working with a professional plumber.
It is vital your backflow valve is suitable for your workload and monitored every 12 months.
