Interesting facts about Miami;
At the 2006 Census, Miami had a population of 6,167.It is located along the Gold Coast Highway, 7 km south of Surfers Paradise and 17 km north of the border.
The history of Miami can be dated back to the early 1920s when prospective investors were looking over plans for a new real estate development called ‘Miami Shore’ at North Burleigh. The investors built their wooden or fibro bungalows on estates such as this, or rented their cottages to holiday makers. They could also stay in the Hotel Miami which opened in 1925 by E. H. Berry. After the Great Depression, the community developed with construction of tennis courts and the Pizzey Park Sporting Complex. The Miami State High School opened in 1963.
Miami is very popular for its laidback lifestyle and beautiful beach. The suburb is well serviced with motels and holiday apartments for visitors.
Miami is built out and dwellings range from beach front units and duplexes to large homes. Homes in the area vary in price depending on whether they are near the water or inland near the highway.
Shops line either side of the Gold Coast highway through Miami. Pacific Fair, the largest shopping centre on the Gold Coast, is a 10 minute drive. Miami organic farmers markets are held every Sunday at Miami State High School and are good for fresh fruit and vegetables and other local produce.
Miami is home to one of the Gold Coast’s most popular beaches, loved by surfers and swimmers alike. Miami Surf Life Saving Club is a popular venue and is a nice place for a drink or meal. This area is also home to Pizzey Park where rugby league, rugby union games and baseball take place. Pizzey Park also has a purpose-built skate park.
